FAQ – Novel printing

Which format is best for a novel?

Most novels are printed in a portable format: pocket size 11 × 18 cm, A5, or intermediate sizes such as 130 × 200 mm or 135 × 215 mm. Paperback (perfect bound) is the usual choice; hardcover (case bound) with a dust jacket is available from 10 copies for collector editions.

How many pages can my novel have?

Paperback (perfect bound) books run from 44 to 300 pages online. Below 44 pages the spine is too thin to glue reliably; above 300 pages, ask for a custom quote.

Which sizes and papers can I choose?

Pocket size 11 × 18 cm, A5 or A4 from the configurator; intermediate sizes such as 130 × 200 mm on quote. Text pages: uncoated (offset) paper, white or cream, or matt or gloss coated paper for illustrated books, in the weights listed by the configurator (typically 80 to 170 gsm). Cover: 250 to 350 gsm board with matt, gloss or soft-touch lamination. FSC or PEFC certified papers available on request.

What quantities can I order?

From 100 copies, up to 2,500 copies online. Above that: on quote.

What is the lead time?

The production time is shown in the configurator as soon as your document is fully specified, before you order, and it is confirmed on the order. A shorter lead time is sometimes possible depending on the configuration and the production schedule at the time of ordering: state your date in a custom quote request.

Are my files checked, and do I get a proof?

Yes. Every file is checked by our prepress team before printing: trim size, bleed, resolution, page count and spine width. An online proof is sent before production; printing starts after your approval.

Where do you deliver?

Delivery across Europe. Outside Europe: possible depending on the product, on quote. Every parcel is tracked, and delivery in mainland France is free.

Need help with typesetting or layout? We can support you in building a structure that enhances readability, pacing and visual flow — whether your book is text-heavy or includes chapter artwork.

Standard formats for novels include 130 × 200 mm, 135 × 215 mm or A5, with the option to define your own custom size. Choose between perfect binding or section-sewn binding, with a wide range of cover finishes. For hardcovers, dust jackets, ribbon markers and headbands can be added to reinforce your book’s visual and tactile identity.

We offer a broad choice of interior papers, matt or gloss lamination, hot foil, and embossing. Print runs start from 100 copies (25 in pocket size, 10 in hardcover) and go up to 2,500 copies online; larger runs on quote. Delivery across Europe. Outside Europe: possible depending on the product, on quote.

Want to make your edition more distinctive? We offer finishing touches such as soft-touch lamination, custom endpapers, French flaps, and spot UV — even for shorter runs. These details add perceived value and turn your novel into a collectable object.

1

Dust jackets for hardcover novels

A dust jacket adds both elegance and protection to your hardcover novel. It offers an additional design surface — ideal for author bios, synopsis, reviews or visual extensions of the cover art. Printed on coated paper with matt or gloss lamination, dust jackets enhance shelf appeal while preserving the book underneath from wear and scratches. Whether you want a minimalist aesthetic or a richly illustrated wrap, our team ensures your dust jacket complements your novel perfectly.

2

Certified papers

FSC or PEFC certified papers available on request. Say so when you request a quote: the paper is then specified on the quotation and the certification mention can be printed on the document.

3

Why print novels still matter

In a digital world, printed novels remain powerful. They create lasting emotional connections, offer a tactile reading experience, and support direct sales through bookstores, events and author signings. A professionally printed novel speaks volumes about your commitment to your craft.

4

Lead times and delivery

Standard production times depend on the binding, the page count and the quantity: the lead time is shown in the configurator before you order and confirmed on the order. A shorter lead time is sometimes possible depending on the configuration and the production schedule at the time of ordering: state your date in a custom quote request. Delivery across Europe.
