FAQ – Luxury brochure

What makes a brochure a luxury brochure?

The paper and the finishes. A luxury brochure is saddle-stitched (stapled) or perfect bound like any other, but printed on heavier or textured papers and finished with soft-touch lamination, hot foil, embossing or spot UV. Hardcover (case bound) versions and slipcases are available on quote.

How many pages can my luxury brochure have?

Saddle-stitched (stapled): 8 to 72 pages, or 8 to 32 pages self-cover. Perfect bound: 44 to 120 pages. Wire-O: 8 to 96 pages. The page count is always a multiple of 4; the configurator only offers the counts allowed by the binding you select.

Which sizes and papers can I choose?

A4, A5, square or landscape formats from the configurator; other sizes on quote. Inner pages: uncoated (offset) paper for text or matt or gloss coated paper for photos, in the weights listed by the configurator for each binding (typically 80 to 170 gsm). Cover: 250 to 350 gsm board with matt, gloss or soft-touch lamination. The exact papers available appear as you configure your document. FSC or PEFC certified papers available on request.

What quantities can I order?

Saddle-stitched (stapled) brochures from 25 copies, perfect bound brochures and Wire-O documents from 100 copies, up to 2,500 copies online. Above that: on quote.

Which premium finishes do you offer?

Soft-touch lamination, matt or gloss lamination, hot foil (gold, silver, copper or coloured), embossing and debossing, spot UV, textured and tinted creative papers, covers with flaps and, for hardcover editions, dust jacket and slipcase. Several finishes can be combined; our prepress team checks the file for each of them.

What is the lead time, and where do you deliver?

The production time is shown in the configurator as soon as your document is fully specified, before you order, and it is confirmed on the order. A shorter lead time is sometimes possible depending on the configuration and the production schedule at the time of ordering: state your date in a custom quote request. Delivery across Europe. Outside Europe: possible depending on the product, on quote. Every parcel is tracked, and delivery in mainland France is free.

Are my files checked, and do I get a proof?

Yes. Every file is checked by our prepress team before printing: trim size, bleed, resolution, page count and spine width. An online proof is sent before production; printing starts after your approval.

Guide

Choosing papers and finishes for a luxury brochure: the complete guide

Most brochure briefs specify the format and page count, then leave "premium paper and nice finishes" to chance. Yet paper and finishing are precisely what your reader feels first — before reading a single word. This guide sets out what actually distinguishes a luxury brochure, weight by weight and finish by finish, so you can specify your project like a print buyer.

1

The paper: weight is only half the story

Paper choice works on three axes: weight (grammage), surface (coated, uncoated, textured) and shade (bright white to natural). For a brochure that must feel substantial, we recommend 150–170 gsm silk or matt coated for inner pages — noticeably firmer than the 115–135 gsm of standard commercial brochures — and 300–400 gsm for the cover. Below those weights, no finish will rescue the impression of an ordinary document; above them, the brochure resists opening flat and the binding suffers.

Surface matters as much as weight. A matt or silk coating gives deep, even image reproduction and takes spot UV beautifully. An uncoated stock feels warmer and more literary — the choice of galleries, architects and wine estates — but mutes photographic contrast, so it suits projects where typography and white space carry the design. Textured and tinted creative papers (laid, felt-marked, kraft, coloured stocks) push individuality further still; they pair superbly with hot foil, which stays crisp where ink might feather.

2

Finishes: hierarchy, not accumulation

The most common mistake in luxury printing is stacking finishes. One strong effect, applied with intent, outclasses three competing ones. A useful hierarchy:

  • Soft-touch lamination transforms how the whole brochure feels — it is the single highest-impact upgrade per euro, and it protects dark covers from fingerprints and scuffing;
  • Hot foil (gold, silver, copper, or coloured) catches light in a way no ink can; reserve it for the logo or one key line — never for body text;
  • Embossing and debossing add relief you read with your fingertips; blind (unprinted) embossing on a textured stock is the quietest statement of confidence in the whole toolbox;
  • Spot UV creates gloss contrast on matt surfaces — striking on photography and patterns, at its best when the varnished element is unexpected.

Two practical cautions from the pressroom. Soft-touch lamination slightly deepens and warms colours underneath — allow for it when preparing your colours. And heavy solid ink coverage on uncoated stock can strike through or feather; our prepress team flags these risks file by file before anything is printed.

3

Binding, the finish you feel with both hands

From 44 pages upward, perfect binding gives the flat, printable spine a luxury brochure deserves; below that, a saddle-stitched booklet on generous stock stays elegant and light. For the projects meant to be kept — anniversary books, flagship lookbooks — sewn sections and a hard cover remain unmatched, and open beautifully flat across double-page imagery. Our guide to choosing the right binding compares every option, and the saddle-stitched page-count guide tells you exactly when a saddle-stitched format runs out of road.

4

Specify it in one paragraph

When you request your quote, three lines are enough for us to price precisely: format and page count; inner paper and cover weight (or the row of the table above that matches your project); and the one or two finishes you want. If you are unsure, send us the project's purpose and print run — we will propose two specifications, one refined and one exceptional.
